At Torii Image Translator, one of our main priorities is the privacy of our users. This Privacy Policy
comprehensively discloses how we collect, use, handle, store, and share user data in connection with the
Torii Image Translator website (https://toriitranslate.com) and the Torii Image Translator browser extension
(including the Chrome Web Store extension).
If you have additional questions or require more information about our Privacy Policy, do not hesitate to
contact us at [email protected].
To provide our image translation, text translation, and optical character recognition (OCR) services, we
collect several types of information from our users:
- User Account Information: When you register or sign in via our authentication provider
(Google Firebase Authentication), we collect your email address, name, unique user ID, and profile
picture.
- Translation and OCR Content: When using our service to translate images, screenshots,
screen crops, or text, the extension or website collects the images (including image buffers and files)
and URLs of the pages containing the images, as well as target and source language settings.
- Technical Diagnostics and Error Logs: In the event of an extension error, we collect
diagnostic logs to help troubleshoot. These logs include the browser User-Agent, platform/OS type,
browser brand, extension version, details of the error, and the user's public IP address (retrieved via
api64.ipify.org).
- Extension Settings and Preferences: We store settings such as target languages,
selected translation models, custom translation prompts, text alignment preferences, font settings, and
credit balances.
- Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) API Keys: If you choose to configure your own API keys for
third-party AI models (e.g., OpenRouter, OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, DeepSeek, or xAI), we collect these
keys, encrypt them locally or on our servers, and transmit them securely in headers to authenticate
direct API requests on your behalf.
We use and handle your collected data strictly for the following purposes:
- Providing the Translation Service: To perform OCR text detection, translate the text
into your target language, and generate the inpainted/translated image.
- Account Management and Billing: To track translation credits, process payments (via
Lemon Squeezy), and authenticate users securely (via Firebase).
- Improving and Troubleshooting the Extension: To diagnose bugs, analyze system failures,
and monitor API performance using diagnostic reporting.
- Customization: To persist your chosen layout settings, fonts, and translation
preferences across browser sessions.
We employ industry-standard security measures to store and retain your information:
- Local Browser Storage: Your preferences, layout settings, and credits are cached
locally on your device via Chrome extension storage (
chrome.storage.local and
chrome.storage.sync) for ease of access.
- Persistent Account Data: Your user ID, email address, transaction logs, and credit
limits are securely stored in Google Firebase Authentication and Google Cloud Firestore database.
- Image Data and Debug Logs: Uploaded images/screenshots are processed in-memory.
However, for diagnostic, OCR alignment profiling, and quality control purposes, some processed/raw
images may be temporarily uploaded to secure, private Google Cloud Storage buckets
(
torii-bucket). These files are only retained as long as necessary for debugging and are
automatically cleaned up.
- BYOK Keys: Your external API keys are encrypted securely when sent over HTTPS and are
never stored or exposed in plaintext.
We do not sell your personal data. To provide, support, and improve our services, we share user data only
with the following sub-processors and third parties:
- Google Firebase: Used for secure user authentication, database persistence (Firestore),
and hosting.
- Google Cloud Platform (GCP): Used to run our API server infrastructure, host temporary
image buffers for debugging (Cloud Storage), and track logs/traces (Cloud Logging, Cloud Trace).
- Lemon Squeezy: Our merchant of record for payment processing, billing, subscriptions,
and affiliate tracking.
- AI and Translation API Providers: Depending on the selected translation model and
settings, translation requests (including text strings extracted from images) are forwarded to
translation/AI APIs, which may include Google (Gemini), OpenAI (GPT models), OpenRouter, DeepSeek,
Anthropic, or xAI. If using the BYOK option, requests are forwarded using your credentials.
- ipify.org: We call
api64.ipify.org only in the event of an extension error
to determine the client's public IP address for inclusion in diagnostic reports.
